What is an Active Adult Living Community?
“Active adult living communities are real estate developments that offer independent, relatively maintenance-free living to residents aged 55 and over. In “age restricted” active adult communities, 80% of homeowners must be 55 and over, while “age-targeted” communities simply market to the 55+ crowd.”
Active adult communities (AAC) may be rental or purchase, depending upon the location and competition. The Del Webb type communities are typically large housing developments with 1,000 to 5,000 homes plus a plethora of amenities geared toward ‘active seniors.’
Most AAC’s focus on the ‘active’ seniors and discourage residents from residing there once they need additional personal services, whether health or personal care (ADL’s).
